For most players of the Native American Flute, we naturally focus on the notes themselves.  The more experience that a player has, the more they tend to "play the note your on".  Though the pauses and spaces in between each note are just as important as the notes themselves.  It is the pauses that "frame" the melodies.  In this workshop, we learn techniques that help to discover our own natural breathing points and how to align them with needed pauses.

Regardless of how experienced a player you are, learning how use pauses will help shape melodies and increase your ability to express them!

Jan Michael Looking Wolf is an indigenous Tribal Member that lives within his Tribal Community.  A player of the NAF for 3 decades with dozens of award winning records that include authentic traditional solo flute, Jan Michael has developed easy-to-learn methods that will help you learn the traditional elements of flute playing.  Learn how to chirp, pop, flutter, lift notes, and melody structures that will give your playing a more authentic, connective sound.
